Vancouver police are asking the Canadian public for help locating Michael Craig, who failed to appear for court on charges related to the June 15, 2011 Stanley Cup riot.

On May 3 Crown Counsel approved charges of participating in a riot, assault, arson and mischief against 21-year old Michael Trentan Craig, who was 19 at the time of the alleged offences.

In July, Michael Craig was located in Saskatoon and arrested. He was released pending his appearance in Vancouver Provincial Court on Aug. 6.

Craig failed to appear for his scheduled court appearance and a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Investigators say they have been actively attempting to locate Michael Craig and have been unsuccessful.

The Vancouver Stanley Cup riot happened after the Canucks lost in game 7 to the Boston Bruins. Over 100,000 were in the downtown core when the riot broke out. Local businesses were looted, with an estimated $5 million damage done to stores and buildings, and police cars set on fire. Police arrested over 100 people the night of the right; more than 14o were injured and nine police officers were hurt.

Following the riot, a special team of police and local officials was organized to identify and prosecute rioters, many of whom had posted for photos or video during the rioting. Investigators sifted through more than a million images and almost 1,600 hours of video to identify suspects.

As of July, over 1,200 charges have been laid against more than 350 suspected rioters, including two 14-year old boys.

Anyone who sees or knows the whereabouts of Michael Craig is asked to contact their local police department or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
